Anurag Kashyap is just like a child. --- Sanjay Singh

When an actor says he is from the National School of Drama, you ought to take him seriously. You are sure that the person will be good at his craft and will add a lot of value to any project he is involved in as an actor. In the last few years, actor Sanjay Singh is making his way into the film industry in a slow but steady space. He has worked with filmmakers of repute like Anurag Kashyap and RS Prasanna and has a lot of interesting projects in his kitty. Here are excerpts from an interview.

You have trained extensively in acting. Apart from studying at the National School of Drama you have also obtained a Master’s degree in acting from the Punjab University. The industry has a mix of trained and untrained actors.

People like me, who do not come from a film background, do not get opportunities very easily. Unlike people who are from the industry or come from film families, we have to work really hard to prove ourselves and get that one break which can help us in propelling our

career forward. Training is almost like a weapon for actors who come into the industry without any reference or contact. Being a trained actor helps you in understanding your craft better, so that when you face the camera finally you give a good account of yourself. My

training gave me the confidence to take it up as a profession and get into the industry.

What is the biggest thing or lesson you learnt at the National School of Drama?

The National School of Drama gives you a lot of exposure, not just as an actor but also as a human being. It helps in expanding your horizon and gives you the ability to think beyond all that you have learnt in your life. You find students coming from different states or from foreign countries. You get abreast of different kinds of culture and sensibilities and that helps you grow as a person. You also get to be trained by some of the best faculty members in the country.

You have worked with renowned directors like Anurag Kashyap on ‘Gangs Of Wasseypur 2’ and RS Prasanna on ‘Shubh Mangal Saavdhan’.

Anurag Kashyap is just like a child. He is always very excited and eager to get the best out of his actors. I had done a small part in a scene in ‘Gangs Of Wasseypur 2’. I remember he was very happy to see the way the scene shaped up and asked Nawaz, Manoj sir and the other actors to come and have a look at the scene on the monitor. Working with him was an absolute joy as he was always very excited and jubilant on the sets. Prasanna is calm and humble person. I had a brief role in ‘Shubh Mangal Saavdhan’ but from whatever little interaction I had with him, I could figure out that he was a very grounded human being.

You played the lead role in ‘Murari The Mad Gentleman’ and have done 

supporting parts in other films. What are the kind of roles you would, 

ideally, like to play?

I am not bothered about the length of a role. I am willing to play both lead roles and supporting parts as long as I feel the character that I am playing is pivotal to the storyline. When I started out, I did some small roles but now, I am more careful about the work I take

up and make a conscious effort to play parts that add some value to the film.

Would you like to do something in the digital space?

I am in talks with a few people for a couple of projects in the digital space. As an actor, I just want to be a part of good projects. The medium is not much of an importance to me. If I am offered a good role in a web-series or even a short film, I would love to do it.

Can you share something about your forthcoming projects?

‘Surgical Strike’ should be out soon. I have shot for a film called ‘Iski Uski Sabki’ which has Sanjai Mishra, Sahil Vaid, Anjali Patil and Prashant Narayanan in it. I am playing one of the lead parts in the film. I am also doing a film called ‘Chidi Balla’ which co-stars Abhimanyu Singh, Chetan Sharma, Mayur More and Ranjan Raj. There are a bunch of good projects which should come out one by one. All of these are good films but have been made on a small scale. It gets a difficult for smaller films to reach out to a large audience. I hope

they all find their audience and get a lot of love from them.

Arshad Warsi is all set to tickle your funny bones with his upcoming film ‘Fraud Saiyaan’. The first song of the movie Chamma Chamma was released yesterday. The song is a recreated version of the iconic track that features Urmila Matondkar.

Dinesh Vijan's Luka Chuppi to release on 1st March 2019!

After the stupendous success of Stree, Maddock films has announced its first release of 2019, Luka Chuppi. The film brings together the never seen before  - Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon and is all set to release on March 1st 2019. 

Directed by debutant Laxman Utekar, and produced by Dinesh Vijan the film set in Mathura will showcase Kartik and Kriti as local TV reporters.

Coming from the success of Kriti’s Bareilly ki barfi, Kartik's Sonu ki titu ki sweety and Dinesh Vijan’s Stree, Luka Chuppi looks like a winner already! 

Kriti and Kartik have both proved themselves not only as actors but also commercially viable. Coincidentally, the 100 crores Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety was also released the same time this year.

Dinesh Vijan adds, “At Maddock, we’ve always tried to ensure we achieve a balance between content and commercial cinema. Stree has been a big boost and we can’t wait for Luka Chuppi now. Kartik and Kriti have done a phenomenal job and it’s exciting to bring it to the audiences.”

Rajkummar Rao learns tailoring for Stree!

Rajkummar Rao is known to be a method actor and always goes out of his way to get into the nuance of his character. For his upcoming film Stree, the actor learnt a brand new skill and have aced it. The actor underwent a month long training for becoming a tailor. He learnt stitching of varied kind of woman outfits from a blouse to shirt. For Rajkummar's character in the film, being a tailor was an important connect to the story line.

Talking about his new learning  the actor points out that the job seems easy but required a lot of prep. Rajkummar shares “Once you sit on that chair, the coordination and reflexes are something else. You can cheat with a body double but I wanted to do everything and bought myself a sewing machine and hired a tailor in Mumbai to teach me how to sew. I also had a tailor guiding me on the sets in Chanderi.”  

Rajkummar was very keen to adapt to the Chanderi dialect. He underwent continuous training for about a month and also had a dialect coach on the sets who made sure that Rajkummar sounded like a resident of Chanderi. He even made sure to have a chat with the locals there to understand how they communicate on a daily basis.  

The actor further adds, “I took a couple of weeks off from other projects to prep for Stree. We finished the shoot in one go. The horror-comedy genre while unexplored in our country has a huge audience.”

Veteran Producer Manish Goswami and his son, writer-director, Siddhant ventured into the education sector by opening their Preschool and Daycare centre named - Joy in the western suburbs of Mumbai. The legendary Mr. Sunil Gavaskar inaugurated the preschool and gave his blessings with best wishes to Siddhant and family for this new journey.

Pradeep Sarkar’s son to give playback for Helicopter Eela

National award-winning director Pradeep Sarkar has commissioned his son, Ronit gives

playback for his upcoming directorial which stars Kajol and Riddhi Sen.

Ronit has previously sung the title track of Lafangay Parindey, which was Pradeep Sarkar’s directorial debut and which featured Deepika Padukone and Neil Nitin Mukesh.

When asked about the song in the movie, Ronit says, “The song is titled ‘Mumma Ki Parchai’ and is composed by Amit Trivedi. The team tried my voice out first and thought it was a decent match, so we went to the studio and recorded it again for the film.”

The song’s energy is what he loved the most. “Its lyrics are funny. The song is in the rock zone, which is familiar territory for me as I was a part of a few bands during college.”

Describing the song more, Ronit says, “The song is about Kajol’s Eela and her son. As a teenager, sometimes you perceive your mother’s protectiveness as her being overbearing. You are too young to understand the sentiment behind it.”

“I’ve been on set all my life but this time the film’s characters have a lot of connection with music. There was a piano on the set and a guitar too. We would be jamming in a room there. Kajol plays the piano in the film so I helped her out.”

He also mentioned that the song was recorded over an evening. “Dad wasn’t present because he tries not to be in the studio when I’m recording.” He bonded with Riddhi, a fellow musician and the male lead of the film. “Riddhi is younger than me, not just the character but the actor too. He’s a guitarist so we hung out quite a bit when I was on the set,” he informs.

Shahid Kapoor, who is gearing up for the release of his next film Batti Gul Meter Chalu, it has been reliably learnt is also busy burning the dance floor in Mumbai studios to feature in the video of a Single, being produced by T-Series’ Bhushan Kumar

A recreated version of Urvashi, the chartbuster from the Prabhudheva-Nagma-starrer 1994 Tamil film Kadhalan, the Bhushan Kumar-produced song also features Kiara Advani. Recreated, written and sung by Yo Yo Honey Singh, the video is currently being shot by director Gifty in Mumbai.

We’ve changed the lyrics, but the hook line remains the same. The song, however, doesn’t showcase a love story but a new-age relationship between Shahid and Kiara. Even the choreography is contemporary. We are shooting on a club set in Film City. We also filmed in a parking lot on Sunday to give the video an underground kind of a feel,” informs choreographer Sanjay Shetty, adding that Shahid is super excited and looks like a rock star.”He adds,  “Even Kiara is a fab dancer.”

The actress admits that although she was excited about featuring in the super hit number, she was nervous too. “I know the pressure one goes through when a classic song is recreated. There will be comparisons. This could be my ode to Prabhu sir, I am his huge fan,” says the actress, adding that she has grown up listening to the original “Urvashi”. She is all praise for her co-star. “We all know Shahid is a great dancer, I was nervous about matching up to his skills, but he was super fun to work with. We were in sync from the word go,” Kiara says.

Says Bhushan Kumar, “The original with Prabhu Deva was an iconic chartbuster composed by AR Rahman. Yo Yo Honey Singh has recreated this version and we are rekindling the onscreen magic with Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani as per the tastes of today’s young generation who will have a  have blast dancing to this song when it releases.”

Senior Citizens come together to watch 102 Not Out!

Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor starrer 102 Not Out has received exemplary responses from the audiences. 

This ageless comedy has won the hearts of millions of people who watched the film and this response has encouraged the housing societies to take senior citizens to watch the film across India.

This took place first in Ahmedabad and over the weekend this took place in Mumbai and Delhi as well. Mumbai Chaitanya towers society took their senior citizen members as well. People who own old age homes were also taken to watch this light-hearted comedy. 

The senior citizens said that they loved the film as it was a slice of life story.

Producer Ajay Kapoor ecstatic about the immense love for Parmanu- The Story of Pokhran!

 

Parmanu- The Story of Pokhran has been the talk of the town since its trailer launch and has just increased over the weekend after the release of the film.  It is clear from the name what the movie is about. Based around the events and people behind making India a nuclear nation, Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran tells the story of how India decided to become a nuclear state. It salutes the efforts of the Indian Army and scientists who worked so tirelessly against all odds to ensure that India finds its due place in the World Nuclear Map.

Directed by Abhishek Sharma, Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran is about a team of officers who were given the responsibility of carrying out a covert operation. The movie takes you riveting journey and promises to be an edge of the seat entertainer. What attracted the audience is to John Abraham back in action and the intriguing plot along with the amazing ensemble cast.

Even after so many legal obligations, producer Ajay Kapoor is ecstatic about the response that the movie has received. Commenting on the same, he says, “It’s really a surreal feeling to see so much love that the movie has received. Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran is a film that should be watched by the people all over the country as it gives us a sense of pride. This film is very important for us and in the same way, we will continue to produce such films.”

The movie opens with its hero, Ashwat Rana played by John Abraham, an IAS officer, trumpeting his patriotism. Ashwat, a smart, moral, conscientious officer, is dedicated to the cause of the nation. How Ashwat puts up a team of diligent workers and executes the mission in total secrecy, is something that will intrigue the audience. The film that also stars Diana Penty and Boman Irani in pivotal roles.

At the trailer launch, John thanked the entire cast and crew for standing with him through this journey and gave a special shout out to Ajay Kapoor. John said, 'Mr. Rockman, Ajay Kapoor has really stood by me in the entire process right from the start." 

When asked about his contribution towards helping John throughout the process, Ajay said, "I was with John before, I am still and will always be with him. This film is very important for us, we wanted the audience to be able to see the film in theatres." The two of them have been standing with each other through thick and thin throughout the legal process.

Thrills, suspense, drama, a little bit of humour, as well as a solid comment on India’s soldiers – this movie, largely has all the tricks to please even a discerning audience. It is definitely an untold story which is well-mounted with excellent production values that are sincerely presented.
