‘AMRITA – A SUBLIME LOVE STORY’ directed by the legendary Director, M.S. SATHYU of ‘Garam Hawa’ fame atPrithvi Theatre, Mumbai . The well received play of 100-minute duration, in Hindustani is based on the autobiography of Padma Vibhushan, Amrita Pritam. It is an experiment in telling, in her own words, the story ofAmrita Pritam – a successful writer cum poet, a rebel and a human being worth admiration! Amrita comes across as a synonym for 'freedom' of an individual. She lived life on her own terms . The play is a unique tribute to an iconoclast.
Charming Lavlin (Dr. Lavlin Thadani), who brings alive Amrita Pritam’s character, an actor par excellence who has played the leading lady in Sathyu's films like Sukha, is a sensitive poet and a filmmaker in her own right. She plays the lead role opposite Mr. Tom Alter. Amrita Pritam thought highly of Lavlin’s poetry and termed Lavlin as her “Soul Mate” despite the difference of almost 4 decades in age between them.
